In the Upper Engadin region, you can almost reach the sky, and the colourful light of the lakes seems endless. Nietzsche described Sils-Maria as his “land of silver shades” with an almost unearthly glow, located right beneath heaven.

The Upper Engadine
A diverse range of sports has sprung from the impressive natural landscapes that surround this holiday destination, known for its world-famous events. The attractions here include skiing, cross country skiing, ice sport and snow kiting in winter, with mountain biking, hiking and kite or wind surfing in summer. Between the Upper Engadine mountains and lakes, the glaciers, wind, water and unique flora and fauna, there is something for everyone.
The Upper Engadine is also host to several museums and art galleries, Segantini the local landscape painter and Nietzsche, the philosopher, for example. Even the Serletta car park with its St. Moritz Design Gallery displays artwork. Visitors can admire the art posters and photographs on show while going up the escalator.
Not least, the resort is known for its excellent local produce and good food. In addition to the haute cuisine, there are also many small restaurants with wonderful food and reasonable prices, as well as some interesting small cafes and lounges to discover. And after dinner, the night owls like to gather in the Roo Bar, the Cascade, the Stübli and the Sunny Bar.
A true holiday classic, St. Moritz is one of the best known holiday resorts worldwide. Winter holidays were invented here 150 years ago, and this is where the Olympic Winter Games of 1928 and 1948 took place. In fact, St. Moritz recently hosted the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships for the fifth time, in February 2017.
What’s more, if you have a taste for the exclusive, various flagship stores and designer fashion and sportswear boutiques await you on the Via Serlas. At an altitude of 1,822 m above sea level, this is the highest shopping mile in Europe.
